“Misa de Gallo” is a cherished Filipino tradition—a series of nine dawn Masses leading up to Christmas Eve. Celebrated at daybreak, just as the roosters crow, the devotion traces its roots to the early Spanish colonial period.
Spanish friars, seeing how farmers and laborers struggled to attend regular Mass because of their demanding schedules, began holding liturgies before sunrise so the faithful could worship before heading to the fields.
Over centuries, this simple pastoral gesture grew into one of the Philippines’ most beloved expressions of faith, hope, and community.
May the Misa de Gallo 2025 bring healing to the wounded, strength to the weary, and renewed hope to all survivors of the earthquake and other calamities that have struck Cebu.
As we prepare for Christmas and welcome the birth of Jesus, may His light shine upon every home and heart seeking restoration, peace, and new beginnings.
