Catholic faithful gather at the Tagbilaran Cathedral, the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Joseph, to send their farewells and best wishes to Most Rev. Alberto “Abet” S. Uy, DD, who will be installed as the 5th Archbishop of Cebu this Tuesday, September 30.
Cebu Archbishop-Designate Uy presided over the Holy Mass.
In his homily, the good bishop reminded the faithful that being ‘poor’ does not only refer to financial incapacity, but more profoundly to being poor in spirit.
“The greatest sin is not always cruelty, but indifference. When we close our hearts to the poor, we are also closing our hearts to God,” Bishop Abet said.
He further urged the faithful not to imitate the rich man in the Gospel, who only turned to Lazarus in his time of need.
“Whatever you did to the least of your brothers and sisters, you did to me … When you have more than what you need, build a longer table, not a higher fence … padak-an nato atong kasingkasing para sa uban,” Bishop Alberto exhorted.
Archbishop-designate Uy will depart from the Port of Bohol after lunch and is expected to arrive at the Port of Cebu at around 4:00 PM later today.
