On September 28, 2025, the Archdiocese of Cebu joyfully welcomed Cebu Archbishop-designate Alberto “Abet” Uy and his delegation at the Port of Cebu.
His delegation, comprising religious and lay people, was accorded a warm reception from a committee led by outgoing Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, Msgr. Rogelio Fuentes (Vicar General) and Msgr. Jan Thomas V. Limchua (Counselor of the Apostolic Nunciature to the Kingdom of the Netherlands), along with local church and civic leaders.
As a gesture of hospitality upon their arrival, Archbishop-designate Uy was offered an array of Cebuano delicacies and products. He was then serenaded with the Archbishop’s Hymn by the Jubilee 2025 Grand Choir and witnessed a traditional Sinulog presentation by the San Diego Dance Company.
A motorcade immediately followed, which brought him to the Cebu Archdiocesan Shrine of San Pedro Calungsod. Upon arriving at the Shrine, he was welcomed with a Sugat Kabanhawan presentation. He celebrated Vespers with the faithful and made his Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity before outgoing Cebu Archbishop Palma.
After making his oath, outgoing Cebu Archbishop Palma and Cebu Archdiocesan Chancellor Msgr. Renato Beltran unveiled Cebu Archbishop-designate Uy’s new Coat of Arms.
The day capped off with a dinner program where guests enjoyed together with the company of Cebu Archbishop-designate Uy in a night of song and dance presentations.
Cebu Archbishop-designate Uy expressed his appreciation and thanksgiving to the Cebuano faithful who warmly welcomed him, who will be installed as their new spiritual shepherd this Tuesday, September 30.
“Naulaw ko, but at the same time, na-happy ko, because I know there is God who is preparing all of these. Naulaw ko, but it dawned on me. It was not really me you are welcoming, it is Jesus. Nindot kaayo ni nga reminder namo kaming mga obispo, kaming mga pari, we should be reminded regularly… Angay mi pahinumduman nga mga donkey mi. We are only servants. It is really Jesus whom the people are honoring. This is all for Him,” he exhorted to the faithful.
Malipayong pag-abot sa Sugbo, Archbishop-Designate Abet!
