With joy and thanksgiving, the Christian community of Sto. Niño de Cebu Parish in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, celebrates the Feast of Our Mother of Perpetual Help and the 29th Parish Founding Anniversary.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the outgoing Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma, together with Fr. Fernando Sotto Jr. (Team Moderator), the team members: Fr. Ireneo Aronales, Fr. Brendan Señoron, and Fr. Domiciano La Rosa, and other visiting priests.
Life is filled with moments that shape us, challenge us, and inspire us to grow. The good Archbishop, in his homily, emphasized that as we journey through life, we must look back with gratitude for the blessings we’ve received while also looking forward with hope for what lies ahead.
He added that in times of doubt, fear, and uncertainty, it’s essential to seek comfort in our faith. The icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help beautifully illustrates this concept. Here we see the Child Jesus—a symbol of innocence and vulnerability—clutching His mother’s hand amidst His fears. This reminds us that even in our most challenging moments, we are not alone; we have a heavenly mother who guides and supports us.
“Tanan kita dunay problema. Dili kanunay masayon. Nagkinahanglan kita og panabang. Kon tan-awn nato ang imahen, kining sandalyas ni Jesus nga nahukas, simbolo kini sa iyang kahadlok kay nakita niya ang instrumento sa paglansang sa Krus. Pero gikuptan siya ni Mama Mary. Panahon nga mahadlok kita, kupot kita kay Mama Mary, kay siya atong Inahan sa Kanunay nga Panabang,” said Archbishop Palma.
