In a spirit of solidarity, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy chose to celebrate his birthday by standing alongside the earthquake victims in Northern Cebu, especially those mourning the loss of loved ones.
“Salamat sa inyong gihatag sa ako nga dakong kahigayonan nga makapaambit sa gugma sa Ginoo diha kaninyo,” said Archbishop Abet.
Rather than receiving gifts, the Archbishop, in partnership with Cebu Caritas Inc., Five Loaves and Two Fish, and other generous benefactors, offered financial aid, food, and groceries to the victims.
Archbishop Abet’s visit brought not only comfort and consolation, but also rekindled hope in hearts shaken by grief and uncertainty. It reminds us that birthdays can be more than personal milestones; they can be opportunities to uplift others and share love when it is needed most.
Just as Archbishop Uy embraced those affected by tragedy, let us also strive to extend our hands and hearts to support one another, doing acts of kindness that resonate far beyond ourselves.
May our compassion create ripples of hope strong enough to calm even life’s deepest tremors.
Happy birthday, Archbishop Abet!
