In celebration of the Solemnity of All Saints and in anticipation of All Souls’ Day, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over a Holy Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral Mausoleum.
Joining him were the Cathedral’s team of pastors and his private secretaries.
“Our vocation is to live a holy life,” Archbishop Uy reminded the congregation, underscoring that neither death nor the cemetery is our final destination, but to be with God among the saints in heaven.
The Archbishop said the celebration carries deep meaning as it honors those who have gone before us—individuals who may not be canonized saints, yet lived with faith, love, and holiness.
“Daghan ang mga tawo nga balaan, mga naningkamot pagpuyo paduol sa Ginoo, pero dili tanan na-canonize. So this day is important because we remember them, we honor them. Kinsa sila? Pwede atong lolo ug lola, mga ginikanan, mga silingan, mga kaila nga nagpuyo sa matarong. This reminds us of our vocation. Gitawag ta pagpuyo og kinabuhi nga balaan. We are called to strive, to do our best, to give everything for the Lord,” said Archbishop Abet.
The good Archbishop encouraged everyone to remember in a special way the souls of all bishops and cardinals laid to rest in the Cathedral Mausoleum, as well as all the faithful departed, entrusting them to the mercy and love of God.
