Archbishop Uy challenges PJS graduates to embody Christ

The Pope John XXIII Seminary (PJS) held its 66th Commencement Exercises earlier today, honoring the academic achievements of 12 Senior High School graduates and 11 Junior High School completers.

The exercises began with a Holy Mass presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy at the St. John Mary Vianney Chapel of PJS. He was joined by Fr. Allan Delima (PJS Rector), the Seminary priest-formators, and guest priest-professors.

In his homily, the Archbishop delivered a compelling reminder to the seminarians: their formation is not merely an intellectual pursuit of knowing God, but a lifelong call to embody Christ—made visible in their actions, words, and daily witness.

“People may not always listen to your words, but they will always observe your actions. Are you respectful? Disciplined? Honest? Prayerful? Let your life be your message. Let people see Christ in the way you live,” said Archbishop Abet.

He further challenged them not to simply remain within the seminary, but to truly grow in it.

“You are not here by accident. You are here because God called you. So, deepen your prayer, grow in humility, and embrace formation seriously,” he said.

Whether they choose to continue in the seminary or pursue a different path, Archbishop Abet urged them to carry with them the values deeply rooted in their formation: a life of prayer, a disciplined spirit, and a heart steadfastly committed to service.
