Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy, accompanied by Msgr. Rogelio Fuentes (Vicar General), visited the wake of the families in the gymnasium of Barangay Bacayan, Cebu City, — the Yosores and the Betinol households — who lost a total of 13 members because of Typhoon Tino.
The archbishop offered condolences, prayed with the survivors, and reminded them of the hope and comfort found in the Christian faith amid overwhelming grief.
The loss is profound: among those killed were mother Venus Yosores, six of her children, and two grandchildren, including a one-year-old.
As of this writing, two members of the Yosores family are still missing.
While nature is powerful and unpredictable, faith offers a refuge. As Cebu begins recovery and families begin the long process of healing, may we extend our hands and hearts to pray, to listen, to support — and to bear witness that in the face of devastating loss, we lean not on our own strength alone, but on God.
