On this Divine Mercy Sunday, the community of San Carlos Seminary College (SCSC) marked a milestone of grace and gratitude as it held its Commencement Exercises.
For this year, the seminary has 12 graduates of Bachelor of Arts Major in Philosophy, and three seminarians from the pre-Theology department who received their certificate of completion for Philosophical Studies.
The exercises began with a Holy Mass presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy. Together with him were Fr. Alvin Raypan (SCSC Rector), the Formation Team, and the Seminary guest priest-professors.
Reflecting on life’s realities, Archbishop Abet reminded seminarians in his homily that fear and doubt are inevitable companions on the journey. Yet, he assured them, Christ does not remain at a distance—He enters, bringing with Him mercy.
He emphasized that whether they persevere on the path to priesthood or are led to another vocation, what matters most is a faithful response to God’s call.
In every path, he said, they are summoned to become agents of mercy.
“You are not called to be perfect men,” the Archbishop said. “You are called to be merciful—men who understand weakness because you have experienced it; men who can forgive because you have first been forgiven.”
