Angel Nacorda Lagdameo of Lucban, Quezon Province, studied in San Jose Seminary. After two months of work as Assistant Parish Priest in Unisan, he became professor and prefect of discipline at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Seminary (1965-1973) where Fr. Ricardo J. Vidal (now Cardinal) was Rector, and Vice-Rector and Procurator of St. Alphonsus School of Theology (1972-1980). Bishop Jose T. Sanchez chose Fr. Lagdameo protonotary of the First Diocesan Synod of Lucena in 1978. Ordained bishop on August 12, 1980 by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Bruno Torpigliani, he became Auxiliary to Cardinal Rosales. When Cardinal Vidal announced his decision to convoke the Fourth Diocesan Synod of Cebu in 1985, he appointed Bishop Lagdameo its Secretary General. He was Parish Priest of San Nicolas in Cebu City (1980-1986) when on January 31, 1986 the Holy See appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Dumaguete with right of succession to Bishop Epifanio Surban.
