To invoke God’s choicest blessings upon its students, faculty, and staff, and ask for wisdom, strength, solidarity, and synodality throughout the year ahead, the members of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines – Cebu gathered for the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by outgoing Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma. He was joined by the Chairman of the Commission on Catholic Education, Rev. Fr. Jesper John Petralba, Ph.D. Ed.D., D.M., D.P.A., and the school priest-administrators.
Acknowledging the profound importance of the role of educators, the good Archbishop, in his homily, thanked them for embracing their responsibilities in a profession that demands immense love for education.
“This is a profession, a vocation, that expects from you so much faith in God and so much love for our community,” he exhorted.
The Archbishop emphasized a vital truth: behind every successful person in our community stands both a parent and a teacher who instill values and knowledge that guide children on their journeys.
Moreover, it is each child’s obligation to embody goodness and strive to be the best version of themselves, as a way to honor the efforts of those who have guided them.
“I know every parent has only the good of children in mind… I often remind the students that the parents could provide payment for your tuition, could give you an allowance, but it’s only you who can study. It’s only you who know that when you read and study your lessons, that’s how you grow in knowledge,” he stressed.
As we reflect on this message, let us inspire one another to recognize these pivotal roles within our communities.
By fostering respect for educators and appreciation for parents, may we create an environment where children not only thrive but also understand the value of giving back through kindness and diligence.
