Earlier today, the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sant’Iago Apostol de Compostela in Poblacion, Compostela, Cebu held a press conference to officially launch the Via Sancti Iacobi Apostoli Compostellani Cæbuanensis (The Way of Saint James the Apostle of Compostela in Cebu), an alternative version of the Camino, which features a structured program of activities.
This aims to guide pilgrims through a spiritual journey of conversion, imitation of Christ, and deeper union with God.
The title, intentionally rendered in Latin, sets this pilgrimage apart from the traditional Camino, which the shrine continues to organize and accommodate.
Present during the press conference were Msgr. Ildebrando Jesus Aliño Leyson (Parish Priest), Fr. Abel Bancog (Parochial Vicar), members of the organizing committee, media practitioners, and the first batch of Via Sancti participants.
The first Via will take place from Saturday, June 28, to Tuesday, July 1, 2025, covering an approximate 40-kilometer distance. Participants include parish youth members, the team of pastors, and members of the organizing committee.
