Jubilee Year 2025 Opening Celebration in the Archdiocese of Cebu

JUBILEE YEAR 2025 OPENING CEREMONIES 

United with the Catholic Church around the world, the Archdiocese of Cebu will formally open the celebration of the Jubilee Year 2025 with simultaneous Opening Ceremonies at pre-identified major churches across Cebu on December 29, 2024, the Feast of the Holy Family.

The celebrations shall begin at 4:00 PM with the Procession leading to the major church where the Eucharistic Celebration shall be presided over by an assigned prelate at 5:30 PM.

In Cebu City, the faithful shall gather and traverse Osmena Boulevard going to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral where the Opening Mass shall be celebrated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma,.

For parishes in the north of Cebu, the faithful shall congregate at Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parish in Danao, where Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Midyphil Billones shall celebrate the Opening Mass.

Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Ruben Labajo shall lead the faithful in the South of Cebu to prayer with the Opening Mass at the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Catherine of Alexandria in Carcar.

Those in Bantayan Island shall also have their own Opening Mass at St. Peter Parish which shall be led by Rev. Msgr. Vicente Rey Penagunda, PC.

The procession route for Jubilee celebrations outside Cebu City shall be determined by the key representatives from respective districts/vicariates in consultation with the local government unit and local church leaders.

JUBILEE MONTHLY CELEBRATIONS 

The Jubilee Year 2025 calls for greater participation among the religious and the faithful as we are commissioned to “restore a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so urgently desire…” (Letter of the Holy Father Francis announcing the Jubilee Year dated February 11, 2022)

We encourage you to actively participate in the monthly Jubilee celebrations, which shall be organized at the Parish and Archdiocesan levels.

  • January: Jubilee of Children, Students, and Educators
  • February: Jubilee of Seminarians, Consecrated Life, Ordained Ministers, and Sick
  • March: Jubilee of Bankers, Entrepreneurs, and Church Workers
  • April: Jubilee of Health Workers, and People with Disabilities
  • May: Jubilee of Media and Communications
  • June: Jubilee of Lay Liturgical Ministries, Ecclesial Movements, Lay Associations, New Communities, and Youth
  • July: Jubilee of Families, Married Couples, Grandparents, and Elderlies
  • August: Jubilee of Pastors and Catechists
  • September: Jubilee of Migrants, Seafarers, and Overseas Filipino Workers
  • October: Jubilee of Environmentalists, Government Officials, Security Personnel, and Missionaries
  • November: Jubilee of Poor, Orphans, Urban, Homeless, Ecumenical, and Inter-Faith Dialogue
  • December: Jubilee of People Deprived of Liberty

JUBILEE PILGRIM CHURCHES IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CEBU 

The Archdiocese of Cebu has identified churches and shrines across Cebu as special places of prayer for Holy Year pilgrims to offer opportunities for reconciliation, indulgences, and other events intended to strengthen and revive their faith.

Here are the parish and shrines designated by the Archdiocese as Jubilee Churches for the Jubilee Year 2025.

District 1 – Metro Cebu North

Immortalize your journey through the Jubilee Churches across the Archdiocese of Cebu with the Pilgrim’s Passport!

The Pilgrim’s Passport shall allow you to collect stamps as proof of your visit to the Jubilee Churches. You may also make it more personal by writing your thoughts, experiences, and personal reflections as you journey through these sacred spaces.

Don’t forget to secure a stamp from the Parish Office before leaving the pilgrimage site. After completing a minimum of 15 visits, a Certificate and a token will be given upon request.
