Our Lady, Salus Populi Romani joins the 40th Walk with Mary

Cebu Provincial Capitol – The corozzas of the Blessed Virgin Mary gathered at 3:00 a.m. on September 7, 2025, bringing 22 Marian titles, Saint Joseph, and the image of Santo Niño de Cebu El Teniente General de la Guardia in a procession from Osmeña Boulevard to Plaza Independencia.
The faithful joined the walk, while the youth, under the Commission on Youth Cebu and the Cebu Diocesan Youth Coordinating Council, carried the icon of Salus Populi Romani, a copy from Rome. This is the third year the icon has joined the Walk with Mary, recalling her role as Protectress of the Roman people.
The original image, enshrined in the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome and traditionally attributed to St. Luke the Evangelist, has long been invoked during times of trial and was entrusted by Pope St. John Paul II to the youth as a companion in World Youth Day pilgrimages. In Cebu, the devotion continues, with the late Ricardo Cardinal Vidal having entrusted the local copy and the WYD Cross to the care of the youth.
During the walk, the young prayed the Holy Rosary, including petitions for government leaders to serve with integrity and promote good governance.

At 6:00 a.m., the Eucharistic Celebration shall commence, to be solemnly presided over by the Most Reverend Jose S. Palma, D.D., Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Cebu.

Our Lady, Salus Populi Romani, is now set to grace the streets from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to Plaza Independencia in commemoration of the 40th Walk with Mary.
