A native of Valencia, Spain, he arrived in the Philippines on September 17, 1789 at the age of 22 when he was still an acolyte and a student of Philosophy. Twice he became the Prior of the Convent of Santo Domingo in Manila and for nine years Rector of the University of Santo Tomas. Twice he was President of the College of San Juan de Letran.
At the proposal of King Ferdinand VII Pope Leo XII appointed Fray Francisco Genoves Bishop of Cebu on March 21, 1824. At the age of 60, he was consecrated by Bishop Francisco Alban, O.P. in the Church of Santo Domingo on July 25, 1826. Shortlived as a bishop he died in August 1 the following year and was buried in the Church of Santo Nino in Cebu City.
