Behind every medical volunteer is a heart quietly saying yes to God.
Jaden Chantelle Narvios, a medical volunteer for REAVO Cebu Chapter, serves not for personal gain nor recognition, but to live out her faith in real and concrete ways — treating the suffering with patience, staying attentive to the needs of others, and offering comfort to the poor and weak.
What moved you to become a Medical Volunteer?
Growing up in the REAVO Cebu Chapter, I was exposed to the realities of disasters and humanitarian work, and my dad’s example taught me that while emergencies are inevitable, so is the opportunity to make a difference. Serving as a medically trained volunteer has shown me how even small actions like first aid, coordinated response, or simply being present, can save lives and support communities in meaningful ways.
Share with us a few rewards and challenges of a Medical Volunteer that usually go unseen.
The financial burden of securing enough supplies and funding certifications and training to develop the necessary skills. Yet, I believe that as long as I have the heart to volunteer and dedicate my time to where I can make a difference, the reward is immeasurable. Seeing the impact I’ve made in a smile, and fulfilling my purpose as a steward of God by serving and loving all of His creation.
Share with us an unforgettable experience during your time as a Medical Volunteer.
I was stationed at the Main Treatment Station, where patients kept coming nonstop from 10 PM to 9 AM. The pressure was intense. Runners exhausted from pushing their limits, some injured, and a few in life-threatening conditions. There were moments when I felt the sting of regret, realizing I couldn’t do more for a patient in the moment. But that experience stayed with me, forcing me to improve my skills and prepare myself to make a real difference especially when someone’s life depends on it.
What keeps you going in this work?
The belief that a life spent serving others is a life full of purpose. The skills I gain could save a life, whether it is someone I love, a stranger, or even my own. Every training and every moment of preparation builds my confidence and readiness because emergencies do not wait, and I refuse to be unprepared.
How do you exercise your faith as a Medical Volunteer?
Being a medical volunteer allows me to put my faith into practice in real and meaningful ways. Every time I treat someone in pain, comfort someone who is struggling, or stay awake through long operations, I am exercising my faith. These moments are not just about applying medical skills. They are about showing care, patience, and compassion. They are about letting God’s love guide me in every decision I make and every person I serve. Serving others is the way I live out my purpose, reflect God’s presence in the world, and be a witness to His Word.
Through her dedication, we are reminded that sometimes the clearest way to see God is through someone who chooses to love and serve when it matters most.
