The Pain of Letting Go: Seventh Sorrow of Mary

The journey of a mother who lays her child to rest is a sorrow unlike any other. Bernadeth still remembers the moment she received the call—Jeslar, her firstborn, unconscious at the hospital. Just hours earlier, they were preparing for Family Day. In a heartbeat, her world collapsed.

“Nagsige ko’g tawag sa iyang phone until naay ni-answer nga nurse sa City Hospital kay unconcious. Ang naa sa akong mind nakuyapan lang sya. Pagkahibalo nako nidagan mi straight to the hospital,” she shared.

Jeslar was her answered prayer, her joy, her strength. Now, she was holding not his hand, but her grief.

“Dili man ta ako ang mohatod nimo. Ikaw man unta ang mohatod sa akoa,” she lamented.

Much like the Blessed Mother who stood at the tomb of her Son, Bernadeth found herself in unbearable silence, holding pain that words could never capture.

“Still fighting the pain, but wala gihapon nawagtangan og paglaum nga maayo ra, sama sa kalawom na samad sa panghitabo with God & Mama Mary,” she shared.

Her message to grieving mothers is simple but profound: “Keep on praying because God is always there. Ug magsakit ang dughan, duol lang mo sa Blessed Sacrament. Talk to God. Naa ra gyod always si God. Siya akong dalangpan sa panghitabo.”

Her story reminds us that even when the Cross is heavy and the tomb feels final, faith remains.
