The Season of Creation will be observed from September 1, 2026 to October 4, 2026, culminating on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Ecology. This annual celebration invites the entire Church to renew its commitment to care for our common home through prayer, ecological conversion, and concrete action.
In the Archdiocese of Cebu, we shall formally open this observance on Sunday, September 6, 2026, the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, with the celebration of the Votive Mass for the Care of Creation (Missa pro Custodia Creationis).
With this, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy encourages all parishes and ecclesial institutions to organize ecological initiatives throughout the month-long celebration.
These may include, but are not limited to: tree-growing and tree-nurturing activities; coastal, river, and community clean-up drives; waste segregation and composting programs; plastic-free parish initiatives during parish fiestas, celebrations, and major activities; environmental education, ecological catechesis, and awareness campaigns; and other parish-based programs that promote integral ecology and care for our common home.
The Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Worship has released the Mass Formulary and biblical readings for the Mass for the Care of Creation (Missa pro Custodia Creationis). To access the file, scan the QR code on the photo or click on this link.
May our prayer and concrete actions during this Season deepen our gratitude for God’s gift of creation and strengthen our shared responsibility to care for our common home.
