CCOST begins preparations for 2027 Welcoming Church

The Coordinating Council for Synodal Transformation (CCOST) gathered earlier today at the Filipiniana Hall of the Archbishop’s Residence to prepare for the Archdiocese of Cebu’s transition from the Listening Church to becoming a Welcoming Church.

Present were Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy, Vicar General Msgr. Rogelio Fuentes, Judicial Vicar Msgr. Raul Go, Archdiocesan Chancellor Msgr. Renato Beltran, the Episcopal Vicars of the Archdiocese’s eight districts, chairpersons of the archdiocesan commissions, and lay representatives.

Archbishop Abet opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of self-sustaining programs and initiatives for the Archdiocese’s upcoming centenary.

Msgr. Beltran then read the Archbishop’s letter on this important transition in the Archdiocese’s synodal journey.

Mrs. Fe Barino subsequently situated the 2027 pastoral thrust within AoC2034: Journeying Together as a Church Fully Alive, highlighting how each year builds on the previous one. Following the Listening Church in 2026, the Church is called to respond to what it has heard by making room for everyone and fostering belonging.

To provide the theological foundation for this direction, Rev. Fr. Abel Villarojo discussed how welcoming is rooted in the very life and example of Christ. He emphasized that a welcoming Church follows Christ’s example by recognizing every person’s dignity, listening to their stories, and accompanying them in their struggles.

As the Archdiocese moves toward 2027, the call is clear: to turn listening into meaningful welcome, inclusion, and communion, building communities where everyone is seen, valued, and welcomed into the life and mission of the Church.

Through this continuing journey, the Archdiocese of Cebu moves closer to becoming a Church Fully Alive – one that opens not only its doors but also its heart to all.
