In thanksgiving for the 25th anniversary of the formal establishment of the Campus Ministry of the University of Cebu, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” S. Uy presided over the Eucharistic Celebration in honor of Saint Pedro Calungsod, patron of the UC-Cebu Campus Ministry.
Together with him were Fr. Neil Cortes (Archdiocesan Campus Ministry Director and Chaplain of UC-Cebu Main); Fr. Steban Savary, CSJ (Assisting Chaplain of UC-Cebu Main); Fr. Luigi Kerschbamer, OAD (Chaplain of UC-Banilad), Fr. Joel Sumooc, OAD (Chaplain, UC-Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue), and other visiting priests.
Reflecting on the witness of St. Pedro Calungsod, Archbishop Abet invited the faithful, especially the young people, to embrace a life rooted in Christian virtue and selfless service.
“You only live once, but if you live it well, it is enough. Si San Pedro Calungsod, kinsa ato gisaulog karon, lived his life well. And how is a life lived well? It is lived well when we exercise the Christian virtue of service. This is how we are designed by God: we can only become happy if we spend our life in service towards others,” Achbiahop Abet said.
Before the celebration, the good Archbishop and UC Founder and Chairman Atty. Augusto Go led a tree-planting activity as a symbolic expression of gratitude for the years of faithful service and of hope for the generations of young people who will continue to be formed in faith.
May the life and witness of St. Pedro Calungsod continue to inspire young people to become faithful disciples and joyful witnesses of Christ, building His Kingdom through lives of holiness, service, and love.
