Archbishop Abet: Faithful service matters to God

Today, the San Pedro Calungsod Parish in Manghilao, Masaba, Danao City, celebrates its 11th Annual Fiesta in honor of the first Visayan saint.

Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Holy Mass. He was joined by Fr. Teodoro Baruc (Parish Priest) and other visiting priests.

Drawing inspiration from the life of San Pedro Calungsod, Archbishop Abet, in his homily, reminded the faithful that even the smallest things we do for God are precious in His eyes.

The Archbishop reflected on how San Pedro Calungsod, who served as a sacristan and missionary companion of a priest, offered his life in the service of God.

Though he may not have been widely recognized during his lifetime, his faith and sacrifice became known to many through his companion, who was also canonized.

“Bisag unsa kagamay ang atong gibuhat alang sa Diyos, bililhon kini sa iyang mga mata,” the Archbishop emphasized.

He reminded the faithful that not everything we do will be seen or recognized by others. Only a few may receive awards, appreciation, or recognition, but this should never discourage us from doing good and serving God with love.

“Pila ra man nato ang ma-recognize? Pila ra man nato ang ma-awardan? Pila ra man nato ang ma-appreciate? Apan ayaw kalimot, bisan dili ka makita sa kadaghanan, adunay mata didto sa taas nga nakakita sa imong gibuhat,” said Archbishop Abet.
