The Boholano faithful warmly welcomed their fellow Bol-anon, Most Rev. Crispin “Bai” Varquez, Bishop-Designate of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, during a civic reception held at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City.
The gathering marked a homecoming filled with joy and anticipation as the local Church prepares to welcome its new shepherd.
The Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, Most Rev. Charles Brown, in his message, recognized Bohol’s deep-rooted faith and rich vocation culture, which has nurtured numerous priests and bishops serving the Church in different parts of the country and beyond. He noted that this flourishing of vocations stands as a testament to the enduring faith of the Boholano people.
Bishop Bai, in his message, pledged to work hand in hand with the government in serving the people of Bohol, emphasizing a shared commitment to the province’s development and the well-being of its people.
He outlined three key priorities: preserving and strengthening the unique culture, values, and faith of the Boholanos; recognizing, nurturing, and empowering their God-given gifts and talents; and protecting the environment while preserving the natural and cultural heritage that make Bohol a destination of pride and wonder.
Beyond the province’s natural beauty, Bishop Bai underscored that Bohol’s true treasure lies in its people.
“Bohol is blessed not only with natural beauty, but also with talented, creative, hard-working, resilient people. Let us work hand in hand to promote education, livelihood, opportunities, nga walay mabiyaan,” Bishop Bai said.
He concluded by expressing his readiness to collaborate with local leaders and communities, offering his support and prayers for the province’s continued growth and progress.
“I offer my hand in partnership, my heart in service, and my prayers for the continued peace and prosperity of this beloved province,” he said.
Tomorrow, October 27, at 9:00 AM, Bishop-Designate Varquez will be formally installed as the 8th Bishop of Tagbilaran.
