The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu, through the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communications (CACoSCo), held the first-ever Cebu Metropolitan Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMCMMA) at the Mountain Wing, SM Seaside City Cebu.

CM-CMMA is biennial event that recognizes the valuable contributions of media practitioners from Cebu, and its suffragan dioceses: Dumaguete, Tagbilaran, Talibon, and Maasin.

Present at the event were Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma, Bishop Marcelino Antonio “Junie” M. Maralit, Jr. (Chair of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Social Communications), Rev. Msgr. Agustin “Ting” Ancajas (Chairman, CACoSCo), Rev. Fr. Ramonito P. Maata (Chair, Commission on Social Communication, Diocese of Dumaguete), along with various local media personalities, Cebu parishes’ social communicators, and members of the academe who served as jurors.

In his welcome address, Msgr. Ting hopes for this to endeavor to become an example to other dioceses as they also respond to the communication pastoral theme: Create, Collab, Commune, to recognize the work of their media practitioners, promote the proper use of media in social communication, and advocate for honest and true journalism.

“We are aware that by enlarging our tents, the tent of CAMMA, we are also expanding our work,” said Msgr. Ting.

CM-CMMA featured 4 major categories: TV, Radio, Print, and Digital Media.

Before the awarding ended, Cebu Archbishop Palma gave a short closing message:

“I take this occasion to thank all of you who are part of this significant and joyful gathering. It reminds us that despite the many challenges in our times, we also have so much goodness in us, the desire in people, to contribute to their well-being of the community, and the realization that when many hands, hearts, heads, and prayers come together something beautiful can happen.”

Archbishop Palma, alongside Bishop Maralit, then declared the 1st CM-CMMA closed and announced the opening of the 2nd CM-CMMA.
