Make a stand against religious persecution by wearing red

Tomorrow, November 26, the Universal Church will celebrate Red Wednesday, an annual call to conscience led by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN).

This year’s theme, “Living Hope Amidst Suffering,” invites the faithful to remember not only the wounds of persecution but also the resilience that refuses to be extinguished.

Red Wednesday is more than a symbolic gesture—it is a worldwide act of intercession and awareness.

While the color red evokes the blood of martyrs in Christian tradition, it also serves as a stark reminder of a troubling reality: countless Christians continue to face harassment, violence, and displacement because of their faith.

Reports consistently show that Christians remain the most persecuted religious community globally, with especially severe threats in regions across the Middle East and Africa.

As the world turns its attention to these often-unseen stories, the invitation is simple yet powerful: stand with the suffering Church.

Parishes are encouraged to illuminate their façades in red, the faithful to wear the same color, and communities to extend tangible support—whether through prayer, advocacy, or material assistance.

In a world darkened by intolerance, let this red light shine as a sign of hope, solidarity, and unwavering faith.
