Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over a Holy Mass at the Archbishop’s Residence in D. Jakosalem Street, marking the visit of the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu.

Together with him were Cebu Auxiliary Bishop-Emeritus Antonio Rañola, the team of pastors of the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu, and the secretaries to the Archbishop.

Fr. Ronmarth Cabase, secretary to the Archbishop, delivered the homily, reflecting on the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

He invited the household and staff to weave these virtues—most especially the quiet strength of obedience—into the rhythm of their daily lives, so that faith may take root not only in prayer but in practice.

“Gihagit kita nga kon buot kita makatampo sa katilingban ug sa simbahan, magsugod ta sa atong pagkamasinugtanon sa ginagmay nga paagi,” said Fr. Cabase.

He added that when the moment comes and offering our “yes” feels heavy, we can anchor ourselves in prayer and remain close to God. The Lord, he said, knows the fragility of the human heart and will steady us, carrying us through our weaknesses with His grace.

Archbishop Abet also reminded the faithful, especially as today the Universal Church celebrates Red Wednesday, to never forget the maternal love and protection that comes from our Blessed Mother. She who has given comfort to our persecuted brothers and sisters will most definitely be that same comfort for us who call on her.

“Ang presensya sa Mahal nga Inahan sa kanunay magdala og kalipay sa pamilya. Hinaot nga makadasig pod nato sa pagpuyo sa kinabuhi sa Inahan,” said Archbishop Abet.

The pilgrim’s visit is part of the shrine’s preparations for the annual fiesta in honor of the Blessed Virgin, which will be celebrated on December 12.
