Archbishop Uy urges faithful to slow down, choose love

Offered in gratitude for the generosity poured out to the victims of the Magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Northern Cebu, the Ninth Day of Misa de Gallo was presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy at the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in D. Jakosalem Street, Cebu City.

On one of the busiest days of the year, the good Archbishop reminded the faithful that God gently invites us to slow down—to set aside the frenzy of preparations and, instead, to look inward, reflecting on our lives and discerning the kind of legacy we hope to leave behind.

“We can build great things and lose ourselves in the process. We can succeed and forget to rest, to give time for family, to pray, and to follow God’s will. Buildings may not last. Businesses may change. But the way we lived, the values we stood for, those remain,” he said.

He added that God did not save the world by building something impressive. Rather, He came as a child, small, humble, and vulnerable. This is God’s way of telling us that what changes lives is not power, but love; not control, but trust; and not pride, but humility.

Tonight at 9:00 PM, Archbishop Abet will preside over the Christmas Eve Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
