In the quiet rhythm of faith and perseverance, Fr. Joel Oriesga’s journey stands as a testament to grace at work.

Currently serving as the chair of the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Catholic Education and as a team member of the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue, Fr. Joel recently reached a milestone—passing the Bar Examinations.

For him, this achievement is not merely a personal triumph but a reflection of unwavering trust in the Holy Child.

When asked what carried him through life’s trials, Fr. Joel points not to his own strength, but to Sto. Niño.

“Prayers and dreams do come true through Him,” he shared simply.

There were moments when the path felt too steep, when challenges loomed large and self-doubt threatened to take root. In those moments of uncertainty, Fr. Joel recalls how the miraculous Child made His presence known—not always through sudden miracles, but through people and providential circumstances that arrived at just the right time.

“I fought many life battles already,” he reflected. “And in fighting those battles, I was never alone.”

Through Sto. Niño, he found companions for the journey: his family who never ceased to believe in him, the presbyterium who stood beside him in brotherhood, his Archbishops who guided and inspired him, and close acquaintances who offered strength when his own felt lacking.

“I thank the miraculous Sto. Niño for sending me these people,” he said, “and for the battles I won with them and through Him.”

Fr. Joel’s story becomes a living echo of a prayer we utter with hope and humility: In all our doubts and perplexities and temptations, Sto. Niño, help us.

Indeed, in every trial faced and every victory won, Fr. Joel’s life proclaims that no one who entrusts their dreams to the Holy Child ever walks alone.
