Cebu Church concludes Jubilee, commissions families

With hearts filled with joy and thanksgiving for the countless graces received, the Archdiocese formally brings to a close its local celebrations of the Jubilee Year 2025.

Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presides over the Closing Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. He was joined by Msgr. Roger Fuentes (Vicar General), Msgr. Renato Beltran (Chancellor), the chairs of the different archdiocesan commissions, and the Cathedral’s team of pastors.

As the Universal Church closes the Holy Doors, the good Archbishop reminded the faithful in his homily that this moment does not signal the end of God’s mercy, but the beginning of a mission—sending each of us forth to carry and share His grace within our homes, parishes, and communities.

“The Holy Door is not closed so that grace may stop. It is closed so that grace may continue through us. Sugod karon, ang Holy Door anha na makaplagan sa balay sa mga Kristohanong banay,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of today’s Feast of the Holy Family, he added that hope is born and nurtured within the family—when each member consistently chooses kindness over pride, compassion and understanding over anger, forgiveness over hatred, and love above all else.

“Karong adlawa, sa pagtak-op sa Yubileyo, ang Simbahan nagbilin og misyon sa matag pamilya. Unta sila mahimong eskwelahan sa paglaum, mahimong dangpanan sa kaluoy ug gugma, ug mahimong saksi sa gugma sa Diyos diha sa ilang ordinaryong kinabuhi,” said Archbishop Abet.
