Trust in the Lord

“In today’s Gospel, a royal official comes to Jesus with a very heavy heart. His son is seriously sick and close to death. Out of desperation and hope, he travels a long distance to find Jesus and pleads with Him: “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

But Jesus does not go with him. Instead, Jesus simply tells him: “Go; your son will live.”

And the Gospel says something very powerful: “The man believed what Jesus said to him and left.”

He believed before he saw the miracle.

This is the important message of today’s Gospel: Faith is not only believing after we see a miracle.

Faith is trusting the Lord even when we do not yet see the result.

Many times, we want the opposite. We say: “Lord, show me the miracle first, then I will believe.” But real faith means trusting the Lord even while we are still on the journey.

Let me give some concrete examples.

A mother prays every day for her son who has gone astray—perhaps involved in drugs, bad friends, or far from the Church. For many years she sees no change. Sometimes she feels discouraged. But she continues to pray the rosary every night and entrusts her child to God.

She may not see the miracle immediately. But years later, the son slowly changes. Sometimes it begins with a small step—he returns to church, or he asks forgiveness, or he begins to rebuild his life.

That mother’s prayer is an example of faith—trusting God even when she did not yet see the result.

Another example.

A father works very hard to provide for his family. Life is not easy. Sometimes the salary is small, the bills are many, and the future feels uncertain. But he continues to work honestly, trusting that God will help him raise his children well.

He may not see the full fruits immediately. But one day he sees his children growing into good, responsible, and God-fearing adults.

That father has been living faith—trusting God even when the results were not yet visible.

Brothers and sisters, the father in the Gospel trusted the word of Jesus and began his journey home. While he was still on the road, the miracle had already happened.

Very often in our lives, God is already working while we are still on the road.

When we pray for our family…

When we work honestly…

When we try to forgive someone…

When we continue to hope in difficult moments…

God may already be doing something in ways we cannot yet see.

So the Gospel today invites us to deepen our trust.

Faith is not only believing after we see a miracle. Faith is trusting the Lord even when we do not yet see the result.

And very often, while we continue walking in faith, we will later discover that the Lord has already been quietly working in our lives all along.”
