Thousands join Penitential Walk opening 461st Fiesta Señor

The 461st Fiesta Señor officially commenced today with the annual Penitential Walk with Jesus, drawing thousands of devotees into a powerful expression of faith and tradition.

The procession traversed from Fuente Osmeña Circle to the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu (BMSN-Cebu).

Following the procession was a Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Danilo M. Carido, OSA, Vice Rector of BMSN-Cebu.

Reflecting on Pope Leo XIV’s motto, “In Illo uno unum (In the One, we are one),” from which this year’s fiesta theme draws inspiration, Fr. Danilo emphasized that, like small bodies of water converging into one deep sea, we too become one in our faith to the Snr. Sto. Niño.

“Each of us nagakian sa lain-lain nga kagikan ug nagkahiusa pinaagi sa atong pagtuo ug gihimo nato kining sakripisyo ug pag-ampo … Sama sa atong pagtuo, daghan usab babag ug pagsuway ug kasakit makapabugnaw kanato sa pagpadayon sa atong pagpangalagad sa pagdebosyon sa Diosnong Bata. But we must reflect on the example of the water as it flows. The surface of the river, as it flows, may be stony and rough, but we must rely on the spirit and blessings that God gives to us,” Fr. Danilo said.
