RCAC to hold Prayer Vigils for Peace across parishes

In response to the call of Pope Leo XIV during his Urbi et Orbi Easter Message, Archbishop Alberto “Abet” S. Uy has invited the faithful of the Archdiocese of Cebu to participate in a unified Prayer Vigil for Peace on April 11, 2026, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., to be held in all parish churches and chapels.

In his circular, Archbishop Abet called on the faithful to respond to a world marked by violence and uncertainty with faith, inviting them to entrust their longing for peace to God through prayer, sacrifice, and charity—especially for those suffering in war-torn nations.

“In these times when our world is wounded by violence, conflict, and uncertainty, we are called as a Church to respond not with fear, but with faith,” he said.

He emphasized that the Church is called to respond not with fear, but with faith, echoing the Holy Father’s appeal to pray and work for peace.

The good Archbishop recommended for the vigil to comprise of two parts. The first half, from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will include the praying of the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Saints. This will be followed by a period of silent adoration and personal prayer from 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., allowing the faithful to “listen to God’s voice” and entrust to Him their longing for peace, especially in nations affected by war.

Archbishop Uy also urged the faithful to accompany their prayers with personal sacrifices and acts of charity, particularly for the poor who are most affected by conflict.

“In this way, our prayer becomes not only words—but love in action,” he said.
