Today, the Archdiocesan Shrine of San Vicente Ferrer in City of Bogo, Cebu, celebrates its annual patronal feast.
Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Holy Mass. He was joined by Msgr. Vicente Rey Penagunda (Vicar General), the team of pastors led by Team Moderator and District 6 Episcopal Vicar Fr. Peter Necesario, and other visiting priests.
Drawing inspiration from the life and witness of San Vicente Ferrer, the Archbishop, in his homily, called on the faithful to purify their intentions and anchor every action in genuine love for God.
He emphasized that true service flows not from the desire for recognition or approval, but from a heart wholly offered to the Lord.
“Buhata, dili tungod sa amo, kondili tungod sa Ginoo. Unta ang tanan natong pagabuhaton para gyod sa Diyos, dili para sa kaugalingon,” said Archbishop Abet.
Holy Masses at the shrine continue to be held in a makeshift chapel beside the parish church after the main structure sustained severe damage from the Magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Northern Cebu last September 2025.
