Today, the San Vicente Ferrer Catholic Parish in Bato, Toledo City, celebrates its 90th parish fiesta.
Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Holy Mass. With him were Fr. Romeo Narca (Parish Priest) and other visiting priests.
In his homily, the good Archbishop called on the faithful to draw inspiration from the life of St. Vincent Ferrer, who led countless souls to God not only through eloquent preaching but through the witness of his life.
Addressing the clergy, Archbishop Abet underscored that the priestly mission extends far beyond the pulpit. While they are entrusted with proclaiming the Word of God, he emphasized that this proclamation must be reflected in their daily encounters, most especially in how they serve and relate with their parishioners.
He then shared a personal prayer he offers each morning: “Ginoo, palihug lang. Matandog unta ang mga tawo, makabati unta sila sa gugma nimo pinaagi nako.”
Turning to the laity, he affirmed that evangelization is not confined to ordained ministry. Even without a microphone or a pulpit, he said, the faithful proclaim the Gospel through lives marked by integrity, humility, and forgiveness.
“Sa inyong pagkamatinud-anon, mapaubsanon, mapasayloon, nagsangyaw namo sa pulong sa Ginoo, bisan pag wala moy microphone,” said Archbishop Abet.
