Today, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presides over the Visperas Mass at the Archdiocesan Shrine of San Antonio de Padua in Tuburan, Cebu.
He was joined by Fr. Zachary Zacarias (Team Moderator), the team members — Fr. Oscar Ornopia and Fr. Expedito Torrevillas II, and other visiting priests.
In his homily, the Archbishop reminded the faithful that the Sacred Heart of Jesus remains a sure refuge for those seeking comfort, strength, and peace. Amid the uncertainties and struggles of daily life, Christ continues to open His Heart to all who trust in Him, offering renewed hope and the assurance of His unfailing love.
“Kon kita kapuyan, asa ta paingon? Sa panahon nga gibug-atan ta, nasuko ta, naglagot ta, nangluod ta, asa ta paingon? Karon adlawa, gidasig ta ni Cristo, ‘Umari kamo kanako.’ Adto ta moduol kaniya,” said Archbishop Abet.
He also emphasized that true loyalty belongs first and foremost to God. The Archbishop urged the faithful not to place their ultimate trust in human persons, worldly powers, or fleeting interests, but to remain steadfast in their commitment to the Lord, whose love and faithfulness never fail.
“Ang problema nato, ang atong loyalty naa sa tawo. Kon magbuhat siyag maayo, loyal ka niya. Bisan pa magbuhat siyag dautan, loyal gihapon ka niya. Bisan og salawayon iyang gibuhat, imo gihapon labanan. Our loyalty should be to Him not to anyone else,” said the good Archbishop.
Tomorrow, June 13, Vicar General Msgr. Vicente Rey Penagunda will preside over the 10:00 AM Fiesta Mass.
