The faithful of San Agustin de Hippo Parish in Magsico, San Fernando, Cebu gathered today to celebrate their 26th Annual Fiesta with the theme, “San Agustin: Atong Panig-ingnan sa Hiniusang Panaw diha sa Mapaminawong Simbahan.”
Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Fiesta Pontifical Mass, together with Fr. Arthur Manalo (Parish Priest) and other visiting priest.
Reflecting on their fiesta theme, Archbishop Abet reminded the faithful of the importance of listening — listening to God through prayer and giving Him time, listening to one another, and especially listening to our family members, the elders and children.
The Archbishop particularly urged parents to make time to listen to their children, noting that many young people today feel unheard and may lose their way when they lack guidance and someone willing to listen.
“Mga ginikanan nga naa diri, I hope kabalo sad mo maminaw sa inyong mga anak. Daghan mga anak karon nga magreklamo kay di na sila mapaminaw sa ilang mga ginikanan. Give time to listen to your children. Daghan kanila mawala sa saktong dalan tungod kay way naminaw nga ginikanan. We need to listen to each other,” said the Archbishop.
Before the Holy Mass, Archbishop Abet blessed the newly renovated parish convent.
May the example of St. Augustine inspire us to listen—to God through prayer and to one another with open hearts. By listening to God’s call, St. Augustine experienced conversion and found a new direction in his life. May we, too, listen to God and allow His voice to lead us closer to Him.
