On this Solemnity of All Saints, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presides over the Eucharistic Celebration at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral Mausoleum.
The Church celebrates today not only the saints officially recognized and canonized, but also the countless men and women who lived lives of faith, love, and holiness and are believed to share in the glory of heaven, even if their names remain unknown to the world.
“We have a common vocation to become holy in the eyes of God,” Archbishop Abet Uy said in his homily, reminding the faithful that holiness is a calling for everyone.
While we are still here on earth, we are called to inspire others through the goodness of our lives and strive each day to live a life rooted in faith.
“Sugdi karon. Ayaw na paugmaa. Because tomorrow is never promised to any one of us,” he added.
He emphasized that saints are not people who never sinned, but sinners who never stopped striving to become better. We are not called to be perfect, but to remain faithful, continually choosing what is good and allowing our lives to be anchored and directed towards God.
The good Archbishop also offers the Holy Mass for all the faithful departed, as the Church prepares to commemorate the Solemnity of All Souls tomorrow, November 2.
