Today, the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Babag, Lapu-Lapu City, celebrates its 29th annual fiesta with the theme: “Mahal nga Inahan sa Kanunayng Panabang, Kauban ni Hesus ug sa Simbahan nga Nagpatalinghug sa atong mga Panginahanglan.”
Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Fiesta Pontifical Mass. He was joined by Fr. Edwin Borlosa, MSC (MSC Philippine Provincial Superior), Fr. Leonardo “Jojo” Ocenar, MSC (Parish Priest), Fr. Severino “Jun” Diamante, MSC (Parochial Vicar), and other visiting priests.
Reflecting on the realities of life, Archbishop Abet reminded the faithful that difficulties and challenges are a normal part of the human journey. Problems, he said, are among the realities everyone must face.
However, he cautioned against allowing worry and anxiety to take hold of the heart. Instead, he encouraged the faithful to entrust their doubts, fears, and burdens to the loving hands of the Father, who knows each person deeply.
“Bisan pa’g unsay atong gikabalak-an, bisan pag wa pa nato gisulti Niya, kahibaw na ang Diyos daan sa atong problema. Ayaw hadlok … Don’t worry,” said the good Archbishop.
The Archbishop pointed to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a profound model of faith and trust amid suffering. Mary witnessed the pain, rejection, and crucifixion of her Son—trials far greater than most people could ever imagine. Yet, even in the darkest moments, she remained steadfast in her faith, surrendering herself completely to God’s will.
Through Mary’s example, the faithful are reminded that trust in God does not remove life’s hardships, but it gives the strength and grace needed to endure them with hope, courage, and unwavering fidelity.
