Archbishop Uy highlights childlike trust in God at Medellin Fiesta

Today, Sto. Niño Parish in Medellin, Cebu, joyfully celebrates its 116th Annual Fiesta Señor.

Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Holy Mass. He was joined by Msgr. Rey Penagunda (Vicar General), Fr. Dindo Yosores (Parish Priest), Fr. Jesam Felicano (Parochial Vicar), and other visiting priests.

Drawing from the image of the Child Jesus, the Sto. Niño reminds the faithful of their identity as God’s children — called to trust and obey the Father with humility.

In his homily, Archbishop Abet echoed this truth, underscoring the Gospel’s call to recognize our deep need for the Good Shepherd—one whom we must listen to, trust fully, and faithfully obey.

Amid human weakness, limitations, and fragility, the faithful are invited to remain close to the Good Shepherd, whose care protects His flock from harm.

“Di gyod ta magpalayo sa Ginoo. Kon duol ta sa atong magbalantay; kon kanunay ta moduol sa pag-ampo, makadungog ta niya, makasabot ta unsay atong buhaton. Kon duol ta niya, luwas kita sa mga lobo,” said Archbishop Abet.
