As part of the celebration of the Season of Creation, the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Environmental Concerns (CACEC) conducted a Watershed Carbon Forest Walk at the Cebu Carbon Forest of Ayala Land.

The activity was led by Fr. Jonas Yap, CACEC Chairman, together with CACEC members and the Laudate Deum Pocket Forest Program Team.

The forest walk provided an opportunity for the team to observe and learn firsthand the ecological functions of a mature forest and watershed, particularly in protecting water sources, storing carbon, conserving soil, regulating temperature, supporting biodiversity, and strengthening climate resilience.

The learning experience contributes to the continuing development of the Laudate Deum Pocket Forest and Ecological Stewardship Program, particularly in understanding the ecological processes and principles that the program seeks to apply through the establishment of native pocket forests across communities.

By gaining a deeper understanding of natural forest systems, the team can further strengthen its approach to native forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, watershed protection, climate resilience, and ecological stewardship.

The activity highlights the importance of translating ecological knowledge into practical, community and faith-based initiatives that contribute to the protection and restoration of our common home.
