More than 1,000 members of the Parish Renewal Experience (PREX) from the Archdiocese of Cebu and the Diocese of Maasin gathered earlier today at the IC3 Convention Center in Mabolo, Cebu City, for the Joint Grand Cenacle.
Anchored on the theme, “One Heart, One Path: Finding Peace and Unity in Jesus Through Mary,” the gathering brought together PREX members in prayer, fellowship, and reflection, deepening their devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and drawing them closer to Jesus Christ through her maternal intercession.
Like the biblical Cenacle, where the Apostles gathered in prayer with Mary as they awaited the coming of the Holy Spirit, the assembly became a space of communion, renewed faith, and shared mission among the faithful from the two local Churches.
The whole-day gathering culminated in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy. He was joined by Maasin Bishop Precioso D. Cantillas, SDB, the clergy of Cebu and Maasin, and visiting priests.
In his homily, Archbishop Abet reminded the faithful of a fundamental truth: “We are the Church.” He emphasized that the Church is not merely an institution or a place, but a people united as one body, with each member called to play an important role in the life and mission of the community.
“Og naa gani mga moral issues sa katilingban, ang simbahan dunay buhaton, pero ang gipasabot ana, kita nga simbahan,” said Archbishop Abet.
Being the Church, he added, means being a people who serve others with love. Beyond titles, positions, or recognition, what matters before God is how we live out our calling through loving service.
“Sa mga mata sa Ginoo, dili importante ang atuang titulo. Sa mata sa Diyos, ang importante ang atong buhat nga ubanan sa gugma,” he exhorted.
As the PREX community of Cebu and Maasin continues its journey of renewal, may this gathering strengthen their commitment to walk with one heart and one path, bringing the love of Jesus into their families, parishes, and communities — with Mary leading them ever closer to her Son.
