Identity & Composition
The Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Catholic Education is the policy-assisting body to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cebu in matters related to Catholic Education. It is composed of the Superintendent of the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools of Cebu System, the Region VII Trustee of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, the Director of the Archdiocesan Campus Ministry of the Archdiocese of Cebu, the President of the CEAP-Cebu Secondary School Principals’ Association, the President of the CEAP-Cebu Elementary Principals’ Association, the President of the CEAP-Cebu Association of Tertiary Administrators, and the respective Superintendents of religious congregational school systems in the Archdiocese of Cebu.
Stewardship, Qualifications, Term & Functions
The Commission is headed by a Chairman who is canonically appointed by and accountable to the Archbishop of Cebu. He is assisted by the Archdiocesan Superintendent and by the designated Deputy Commissioners who take charge of identified key result areas. The Commission Chairman holds office for a maximum of six (6) years and at the pleasure of the Archbishop of Cebu. He executes the following duties and responsibilities:
- To inspire a collective resolve to move towards the direction of an integrated Religious Education Program reflective of the pastoral thrust of the Archdiocese of Cebu;
- To establish strategic linkages with relevant educational foundations, accrediting institutions, ecclesiastical offices, archdiocesan bodies, professional organizations, advocacy groups and governmental agencies;
- To serve as an umbrella authority for the Archdiocesan Superintendent in the stewardship of archdiocesan institutions of learning, the implementation of the Philippine Catholic Schools Standards, the animation of Justice and Peace, Ecological Integrity, Engaged Citizenship, Poverty Reduction, Gender Equality and Youth Empowerment, and the scrutiny of formal requests from interested schools in the Archdiocese of Cebu for CEAP Membership;
- To establish and nurture the Cebu Association of Catholic Institutions of Learning so that a fellowship of Catholic schools in contract with the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cebu shall be formed and sustained for the promotion and development of the archdiocesan apostolic ministry of education;
- To make opportune recommendations to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cebu on matters pertaining to Catholic Education in the light of the archdiocesan consuetude.
- To develop and maintain an up-to-date Archdiocesan Educational Management Information System with the help of the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Catechetical Apostolate and the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communication;
- To represent the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cebu, when officially delegated to take an active role, in educational affairs or assemblies;
- To appropriate magisterial teachings on Catholic Education and resources from the Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines which are germane to the advancement of Gospel values integration in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs;
- To review and monitor the contract terms and conditions governing Catholic schools owned by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cebu but managed by religious congregations in order to protect the interests of the Archdiocese of Cebu;

The COMMITTEE ON ARCHDIOCESAN EDUCATIONAL APOSTOLATE supports the general supervision and administration of the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools of Cebu System by putting premium on evangelizing education.

The COMMITTEE ON SOLIDARITY AND COMMUNION takes charge of the establishment and nurturance of the Cebu Association of Catholic Institutions of Learning so that a fellowship of Catholic schools in contract with the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cebu shall be formed and sustained for the advancement and development of the archdiocesan apostolic ministry of education.

The COMMITTEE ON CAMPUS MINISTRY coordinates various pastoral initiatives to build and strengthen Christocentric and parish-conscious faith communities in campuses.

The COMMITTEE ON PROGRAMS AND ADVOCACIES reinforces the furtherance of timely educational initiatives and advocacies like voluntary accreditation, PCSS (Philippine Catholic Schools Standards) and JEEPGY (Justice and Peace, Ecological Integrity, Engaged Citizenship, Poverty Reduction, Gender Equality and Youth Empowerment).
