The Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parish in El Pardo, Cebu City, celebrates its 160th annual fiesta today, with the theme, “Towards Becoming a More Listening Church with Sto. Tomas de Villanueva.”
Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the 4:00 PM Solemn Pontifical Mass, joined by the parish team of pastors led by Fr. Eligio Suico, Team Moderator, along with visiting priests.
Reflecting on the life of St. Thomas of Villanova, known for his profound charity and love for the poor, Archbishop Abet urged the faithful to cultivate the same spirit of compassion and generosity in their own communities.
He reminded those going through trials and difficulties not to lose hope, assuring them that God is always with them, especially in moments of struggle.
“Katong mga naglisod o naapiki sa kinabuhi, si Kristo nakighiusa kaninyo. Akong pag-ampo nga maghatag na ninyo og bisag gamay lang nga kalig-on sa inyong kahimtang karon,” said Archbishop Abet.
The Archbishop likewise encouraged everyone to become a “little St. Thomas of Villanova” by loving wholeheartedly, giving generously, and seeing Christ in those who are most in need.
