As the country participates in the Novena Intercontinental Guadalupana, a global journey from 2025 to 2031 in preparation for the 500th anniversary of the Our Lady of Guadalupe apparitions in Mexico, the Archdiocese of Cebu is deeply blessed to welcome her.

Spearheaded by the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu from September 4 to 6, 2026, the parish held the Grand Guadalupana Procession.

Prior to the procession, a 4:00 PM Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Ian Fel Balankig, vice-president for Visayas of the Association of Catholic Shrines and Pilgrimages of the Philippines and member of the Team of Pastors from the National Shrine of Saint Joseph in Mandaue City.

The foot procession commenced around 5:00 PM and concluded at 7:00 PM. It brought together various local replicas and venerated images of Our Lady of Guadalupe, including the ones from the Archdiocesan Shrine in Cebu and Our Lady of Guadalupe de Extramadura which originated from Loboc, Bohol.

Adding significance to the procession was the inclusion of the revered image of Saint Juan Diego and the official replica of the Original Tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe, blessed and brought directly from the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico.

Through the Papal Bull Romani Pontifices, issued by Pope Pius XI on July 16, 1935, Our Lady of Guadalupe was proclaimed the official “Celestial Patroness of the Philippine Islands.”

Tomorrow, an 8:00 AM Send-Off Mass will be celebrated as her pilgrim image continues her journey across the country.
