Today, the San Ignacio de Loyola Parish in Kawit, Medellin, Cebu, celebrates its 64th Fiesta Celebration with the theme: “San Ignacio de Loyola Parish: Simbahang Buhi, Nagpanaw, ug Nagpaminaw,” in honor of its beloved patron, St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Fiesta Mass. He was joined by Fr. Eulogio Almazol II (Parish Priest) and other visiting priests.

In his homily, Archbishop Abet reflected on the importance of allowing God to direct every aspect of our lives, reminding the faithful that true fulfillment is found only when we entrust our journey to Him.

“Aron makaabot sa atong destinasyon, kinahanglan Diyos ang atong pa-driveon,” said Archbishop Abet.

Reflecting on the life and spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Archbishop encouraged everyone to embrace the spirit of discernment.

Like St. Ignatius, we are called to listen first to God, then to one another, and to continually seek and recognize God’s presence in each person’s heart, including our own.

Through discernment, we learn to distinguish between the good spirit and the evil spirit. We know that the Holy Spirit is at work within us when our hearts are filled with peace, joy, and true contentment—clear signs that we are living according to God’s holy will.

As the Church commemorates the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, may his enduring witness inspire us to become a truly listening, discerning, and pilgrim Church—courageously following Christ wherever He leads.
