Never become another’s cross, Archbishop Abet urges

Today, the Sta. Cruz Parish in Talavera, Toledo City, celebrates its 39th Parochial Fiesta.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy. He was joined by Fr. Pepito Batomalaque (Parish Priest) and other visiting priests.

Just as Christ carried His cross, Archbishop Abet reminded the faithful that we, too, are called to carry our own crosses, not running away from life’s struggles but allowing them to lead us closer to God and strengthen our faith.

“Kon ikaw magpakasayon, ikaw dili gyud malig-on. Ang tawo nga moagi sa kalisod, mohingkod.” he said.

The good Archbishop further shared three lessons on how we are to face the crosses of life. First, do not be afraid of the cross. Like Jesus, we are invited to remain faithful even when the journey becomes difficult.

Second, do not become a cross to others. Archbishop Abet invited everyone to look within and examine their own attitudes and actions.

Through prayer and reflection, we can ask ourselves: Have I become a burden or a cross that someone else has to carry? In our words, actions, and relationships, we are called to be considerate of the struggles others are already carrying.

Third, continue to believe that God can turn our crosses into blessings. Our problems may feel heavy, but they will not last forever.

As Archbishop Abet reminded the faithful, just as strong rain eventually stops, our difficulties will also come to an end. With faith and trust in God, the cross we carry can become a path toward deeper faith, strength, and blessing.
