The Franciscan-run San Vicente Ferrer Parish in Cebu City officially launched the local observance of the Jubilee of St. Francis of Assisi.
This celebration unites Cebu with Rome as the Jubilee Year formally commenced on January 10 of this year. The launch marks the 8th Centenary of the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi — the commemoration of his passing from earthly life into eternal glory on October 3.
A Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Renee C. Dean, OFM (Minister Provincial of the Province of San Antonio de Padua, South Philippines). He was joined by Fr. Mark Anthony Zarate, OFM (Parish Priest), together with the Franciscan community.
Written by Fr. Zarate and composed by Emmanuel Abellana, the parish also launched the Halad Awit kang San Francisco sa Assisi titled “San Francisco, Igsoon ug Sumbanan Namo.”
The launching likewise coincided with the parish’s celebration of the 2nd Anniversary of its Church Dedication.
Last April 25, 2026, Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy formally declared a Special Year of Grace for San Vicente Ferrer Parish in celebration of its 50th Parish Fiesta.
As part of the declaration, the parish was designated as a Place of Pilgrimage, with Plenary Indulgence granted to pilgrims who visit the parish from April 25, 2026, until April 27, 2027.
During this time, the Faithful may receive a Plenary Indulgence (the full remission of sins) once they make a Pilgrimage to the Chapel, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, the Apostles’ Creed, one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be. The usual conditions of Sacramental Confession and Communion must also be fulfilled.
