As the Parroquia de Santiago Mayor Apóstol in Badian, Cebu, continues its spiritual journey toward its 200th Parochial Fiesta Celebration, the faithful gathered today for the Second Day of the Novena in honor of their patron, St. James the Apostle.

Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Eucharistic Celebration, concelebrated by Fr. Florino Tonde (Parish Priest), Fr. Christopher Carl Ompad (Parochial Vicar), and other visiting priests.

In his homily, Archbishop Abet reflected on the Archdiocese of Cebu’s pastoral direction toward 2034—”Journeying Together as a Church Fully Alive.”

He emphasized that the Church’s mission is not merely to grow in numbers but to become a community deeply rooted in a living relationship with Christ.

The Archbishop invited the faithful to reflect on what truly makes the Church alive.

“Unsa may timailhan nga buhi ang Simbahan? Kinahanglan nakasabot sa Kristohanong pagtuo, katawhan nga nagsaulog sa ilang pagtuo, ug nagsaksi sa ilang pagtuo,” he said.

He explained that a vibrant Church is composed of people who know their faith, joyfully celebrate it, and courageously bear witness to it in their daily lives.

Drawing from the Gospel, Archbishop Abet also reminded the faithful that authentic Christian greatness is measured not by power or prestige, but by humble service.

“Ang labing dako kinahanglan mangalagad sa tanan; ang atong ambisyon kinahanglan mahimong misyon,” said the good Archbishop.

He encouraged everyone to transform personal ambitions into a mission of loving service, following the example of Jesus Christ, who came not to be served but to serve.

The Parochial Fiesta will be celebrated on July 25, 2026, with Msgr. Daniel Sanico presiding over the 10:00 AM Fiesta Mass.
