Today, the community of Pope John XXIII Seminary (PJS) celebrates the 45th Annual Fiesta in honor of St. John Mary Vianney with the theme: “Living together as a School of Love towards becoming a Listening Church.”

Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Holy Mass. He was joined by the PJS priest-formators led by Fr. Allan Delima (Rector) and visiting priests.

Drawing inspiration from the life and witness of St. John Mary Vianney, Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy, in his homily, reminded the faithful, especially the seminarians, that amid the busyness of life and the relentless pursuit of success, the most important task is to cultivate a heart that listens first to God.

“Before God asks us to speak, He asks us to listen. Many people today know how to post, comment, argue, and criticize. Very few know how to listen … A priest who no longer listens to God eventually has nothing worth saying,” said Archbishop Abet.

The Archbishop also encouraged the faithful never to doubt God’s love, reminding them that His love remains constant even in moments of weakness, uncertainty, and struggle.

Trusting in that unfailing love, he said, gives strength to persevere and the courage to faithfully respond to God’s call.

“If you never forget that Christ loves you first, you will never lose your joy,” said Archbishop Abet.

As the Church celebrates St. John Mary Vianney Sunday, let us offer special prayers for priests, asking that they may remain faithful to their vocation, be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, and continue to serve God’s people with joyful and generous hearts.
