The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu condoles with the family, friends, and former parishioners of +Rev. Fr. Decoroso “Cocoi” Olmilla.
Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presides over the Funeral Mass of +Fr. Cocoi at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
In his homily, Archbishop Abet acknowledged the reality of depression, noting that even in Scripture, God’s servants experienced profound despair. Mental health struggles, he stressed, can affect anyone — including members of the clergy.
He urged the faithful to take mental health seriously: to seek understanding, address concerns proactively, and extend genuine care to one another.
“This is a wake-up call for all of us to truly care for one another. Kinahanglan mag-amping ta sa usa’g usa. Magpakabana. Magpaminaway. Kay daghan tawo magpahiyom sa gawas apan nagmasulob-on sa sulod,” the archbishop said.
He also asked the congregation to pray for priests, reminding them that clergy are human too. He encouraged priests to strengthen their fraternal bonds — to support, pray for, and listen to one another.
Archbishop Abet closed by reminding the faithful to hold fast to a central truth of the Christian faith: that God’s love and mercy are greater than any sin, weakness, or episode of depression.
Eternal rest grant unto +Fr. Cocoi, o Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
