Archbishop Uy calls priests to humility, authentic service in monthly recollection

In preparation for the renewal of their priestly vows, the Presbyterium of the Archdiocese of Cebu gathered at the Galilee Centrale for their monthly recollection.

The gathering opened with a Holy Hour, followed by a reflection by Fr. Andrew Batayola, OSA, on the theme “Authority as Service: Healing the Wounds of Clericalism.”

The recollection culminated in the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy. He was joined by Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Jose Palma, Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Emilio Bataclan, the Vicars General, and the rest of the Presbyterium.

Building on the reflection given by Fr. Batayola, the Archbishop exhorted his priests to be faithful in their ministry.

He emphasized that all are called to serve and to lift others up, making a heartfelt and urgent appeal to renounce clericalism and to examine any sense of entitlement within their hearts.

“Let us return to the image of Christ: who washed feet, who welcomed sinners, who carried the cross. The credibility of our priesthood today depends not on our titles, not on our authority, but on our humility and authenticity,” said Archbishop Abet.

Tomorrow, March 24, Tuesday, the Archdiocese of Cebu will celebrate the Chrism Mass at 9:00 AM at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
